CORBOULD PARK is one of the country’s finest thoroughbred racing and training facilities. It is located less than an hour north of Brisbane and just minutes from the Sunshine Coast’s gorgeous City of Caloundra.
The facility consists of an outer grass track, and since April 2008, a synthetic cushion track (the first of its kind in Australia) and inner training track. The grass track is 1967 metres long and 20 – 25 metres wide with 5 starting chutes, while the cushion track is 1760 metres long and 18 metres wide.
Both tracks are illuminated with the largest single floodlighting installation ever completed in Australia. The lighting provided by 900 x Philips Arenavision 2kW floodlights with poles supplied and erected by GM Poles. Pole heights ranged from 12 to 40m with additional lighting fixed to a structure mounted on top of the tower. GM Poles scope of work also included design and installation of foundations. The lighting scheme meets the necessary brightness and uniformity required for television coverage, while providing safe and comfortable conditions for jockeys, horses and officials.
Pierlite Australia received an award of commendation from the Queensland chapter of the IESANZ (Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand) at the 2009 Queensland Lighting Design Awards.
